By Father Tim

Dear Christ the Redeemer family,

During Lent this year I invite you to a special time and space set apart for Soul Restoration.

We think of Lent as a time of fasting, of denial, of taking on a particular spiritual discipline of some sort, and these things are good. And, of course, the purpose of them is not doing the thing in itself, but rather the self-reflection and renewal to which we are led. I always take a little to sit with our Lord Jesus and ask him what sort of focus he has in mind for me during Lent that year. I find this prayer time with him is indispensable to my having a healthy sense of why I am doing what I am doing, and the confidence that our Lord Jesus is with me in it.

In addition to whatever particular, personal Lenten practice you may feel called, please know as well that you are invited to Worship and Prayer Wednesdays, which are resuming during Lent. The special focus of those Wednesday worship times will be that of giving us space and tools for Soul Restoration.

If you have not had a chance to participate in Worship and Prayer Wednesdays, here’s the deal: it is a simple liturgy, worship in music and singing, heartfelt teaching, and an opportunity to respond to Jesus’ invitation to us in prayer in some way that is particularly suited to the message of that evening. Our time together with our Lord Jesus in this special way goes basically from 7-8 pm.

I am excited to say that Bishop Andrew will be with us some of these evenings, Canon Ross Kimball as well, and others. The topics are aspects of the spiritual life:

  • Gratitude
  • Listening
  • Humility
  • Forgiveness
  • Grieving

Worship and Prayer Wednesdays begin on March 4th at 7 pm.

Also during Holy Week, there are three special nights before the Triduum begins:

  • Holy Monday, Holy Eucharist, 7.30 pm.
  • Holy Tuesday, Lament, 7.30 pm.
  • Holy Wednesday, Tenebræ, 7.30 pm.

May Jesus Christ be praised,

Tim+
