Bible Studies at CTR
Bible Study Groups
CTR has a growing array of Bible study options. Below are some of the most common, long-standing groups. Newcomers are always welcome to join in, and new themes and topics rotate in from time to time, so be sure to check the calendar for current groups and times.
Band of Brothers
Band of Brothers is a group of young adult men, who gather on Monday evenings for food, fellowship and a discussion of the previous Sunday’s lections/sermon and concludes with Evening Prayer. Contact Adam Gosnell for more information and meeting time and place.
Weekly Adult Bible Study
This is a year-round Bible study for men and women meets in the church sacristy at 7:00 PM on Tuesday nights and is led by Darrell Haskell. Richard Thorndike is the contact person.
Weekly Women’s Group
The Women’s Ministry offers a weekly Bible study for women of all ages. The group meets every Thursday (September through May only) from 10 AM until 12 PM for fellowship, refreshments, scripture study, discussion, and shared prayer. Contact Kim Ober with questions or to request materials.
The Alpha course is a practical explanation of the Christian faith, for both the un-churched skeptic and churched. It helps people explore questions about Christianity and the meaning of life. A few of the topics: “Who is Jesus?”, “Why did He die?”, “What about evil?”, “How does God guide us”, “Who/What is the Holy Spirit?” Alpha is a place where no question is seen as too simple, or too hostile.
Alpha is offered throughout the world in churches of many sorts and also in such diverse settings as prisons, universities, public high schools, housing developments, coffee shops, bars, and the US Navy.
An introductory evening gives people the opportunity to sample a typical Alpha evening, (which includes dinner, a video, and discussion). Then visitors can decide whether or not they want to continue with the course, which meets weekly, or perhaps to take it at a future date.
For more information about Alpha, you can visit the website or watch this video. You can also contact CTR parishioner Willard Cook, the executive director of Alpha New England (email), if you want a surer relationship with God, or (honestly) wonder if he exists and if you can really trust him. Ask anyone who has taken Alpha and you’ll hear it is very rewarding!
